Info
What they wanted. A lived-in but contemporary family haus.
What we did. Lead Design Consultant.
How it went. Inspired by the client’s history and connection to Franschhoek Wine Region in South Africa, we took inspiration from the classic Cape Dutch Architecture, referencing it throughout the interior and exterior of the home. We highlighted warm natural finishes like stone, timber, terracottas and plasters while drawing attention to sleek and defined minimalist forms.
What we love most. We love the simplicity of the building form, with the clean and dominant forms referencing a “barn house” and comprising four gable roofed ‘pavilions’. Internally, these gable roof structures are showcased with high raked ceilings, defining the space and creating an experience characteristic of this barn house style.
Collaborators. The homeowners, Econest by Arcologic for DA and Jen Hambury for Landscaping. Photography, Jody D’Arcy.
